How to use the new 5-in-1 +maskology LED face mask

Once reserved for celebs and VIPs, LED face masks have become so much more accessible in recent years. As clients have become more in tune with their skincare concerns, needs, and goals, their desire for the very best beauty treatment has only grown. No longer an unattainable and unaffordable service, LED light therapy is fast becoming one of the most popular, long-term facial treatments on the market.

What is an LED Light Mask?

So, just what is an LED light therapy mask? Well, let us fill you in. An LED facial mask uses specific wavelengths of light to target and activate the cells below the skin’s surface. As the light enters the skin, the wavelengths are converted into intracellular energy which stimulates a photochemical, enzymatic reaction to promote the production of glycogen and proteins. All very technical-sounding, we know, but in a nutshell, light therapy enhances cells’ metabolism and collagen renewal, resulting in a wide range of skincare benefits, from fighting signs of ageing and acne, to evening and brightening the skin tone.

LED mask benefits

One of the best things about LED face mask light therapy is that it’s completely non-invasive. Entirely free from chemicals and with no downtime, an LED mask can provide amazing results while being completely safe and painless.

What’s more, with the amazing LED +maskology face mask, your clients can experience 1 of 5 light therapy treatments to tackle a variety of skin concerns. From blue light therapy to fight acne-causing bacteria, to red light therapy to reduce signs of ageing, to yellow light therapy to brighten the complexion, this chemical-free face mask is so versatile.

And with versatility, comes profitability! The 5-in-1 +maskology Photon LED Mask opens your doors to so many treatment offerings. Not only that, but it’s a great way to maximise treatment time while ensuring a great return on investment. Depending on your salon’s location, LED facial treatments can cost between £30-60 per session. As the benefits of light therapy treatments are cumulative, to get the best results, the experts at +maskology recommend clients book in for 2 treatments a week and maintain those regular appointments.

Been doing the maths? Don’t worry – we have. If your business was performing an average of 10 light therapy treatments per week, you could be looking at a return of up to £2,400 in revenue per month! Coming in at just £165 ex. VAT, you don’t even really need to call this mask an investment!

Which colour LED to use

So, how do LED face masks work, and which setting should you use? Let’s delve into the benefits of each colour LED…

Red Light Therapy

For anti-ageing. Red light helps to stimulate collagen production and cell renewal to deeply rejuvenate the skin. The ultimate anti-ageing face mask, red light LED masks reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving the complexion plumper and with a youthful glow.

For best results, complete 3 x 10 minute treatments per week.

Follow with the +serumology Retinol Facial Serum to further combat signs of ageing, or with the Vitamin C Serum to boost the complexion.

Blue Light Therapy

For acne treatment. Blue light often gets a bad rap, but not when it comes to professional skincare treatments. Used at a low exposure for short periods of time, blue LED light helps to kill acne-causing bacteria while purifying the pores and regulating oil glands. A great choice of face mask for acne prone skin, the +maskology blue light treatment improves the appearance of existing blemishes while minimising future breakouts.

For best results, complete 2 x 20 minute treatments per week.

Follow with +serumology Niacinamide Facial Serum for further oil regulation and breakout-fighting power. You can also complement blue light treatments with Retinol Face Serum to improve skin’s texture and brighten the complexion.

Yellow Light Therapy

For brightening. Yellow light helps to improve the function of oxygen in the cells and enhance microcirculation. It also dilutes pigment to promote cell regeneration, resulting in a smoother, brighter skin tone.

For best results, complete 3 x 20 minute treatments per week.

Boost skin’s radiance by following with the +serumology Vitamin C Serum, or lock in moisture with the deeply hydrating Hyaluronic Acid skincare serum.

Near Infrared Light Therapy

For pore refinement. The best LED face mask for pores that can become enlarged, the near infrared light increases collagen production to accelerate skin’s metabolism. This reduces pore size, improves skin tone, and brightens the complexion.

Please note: Infrared light is not visible to the naked eye, so you won’t see any obvious bright light on this setting. You may be able to see a slight red glow from the light beads, but not the light waves themselves.

For best results, complete 3 x 10 minute treatments per week.

Enhance skin’s suppleness and elasticity by incorporating +serumology Squalane Facial Serum into your treatment, or follow with the Vitamin C Serum for a final glow.

Purple Light Therapy

For anti-ageing and acne. A combination of red and blue light, this setting fights against free radicals and helps reduce inflammation. It also improves blood circulation as well as specifically targeting acne and blemishes for an overall healthier complexion.

For best results, complete 3 x 20 minute treatments per week.

Enhance the power of purple LED light therapy with +serumology Retinol anti-ageing serum or Niacinamide serum for blemishes and acne.

LED Face Mask FAQs

Are LED face masks safe to use daily?

While it is safe to use an LED mask everyday, +maskology recommend avoiding overuse and sticking to the recommended 3-5 sessions per week. They also advise using the mask for no longer than 30 minutes at a time. Consistency is key, so encouraging clients to get into a routine with LED light therapy is the best way for them to see results quickly.

Can multiple LED lights be used in the same treatment?

Absolutely! You can switch up the light modes during the treatment time for enhanced benefits. For example, you could begin with 10 minutes of blue light therapy and follow up with 10 minutes on the yellow light setting.

Can you use an LED face mask with retinol?

Retinol can make skin more sensitive to light. While the LED photon mask doesn’t produce harmful UV rays, light therapy can still produce reactions from this increased sensitivity. You can continue to use retinol as part of your client’s treatment, but it’s recommended that you apply any retinol products after the light therapy, rather than before.

Do LED face masks work for acne?

Acne concerns are one of the main reasons clients may seek LED light therapy. Most cases of common acne are caused by bacteria that emits a photo-sensitiser, which makes the bacteria sensitive to blue light. Using blue light therapy can help to kill the bacteria deep within the pores to clear and prevent acne and breakouts.

Can LED face masks help with dry skin?

LED light therapy masks can help to tackle inflammation and redness caused by dryness. The light also energises skin cells, making them more capable of regenerating and boosting repair which all helps skin to better retain moisture. For best results on dry skin, opt for yellow light.

Can photon LED light therapy be used alongside aesthetic procedures?

Yes! Not only can you use light therapy alongside aesthetic treatments like microneedling and dermarolling, but it can actually enhance the results. If using the LED mask after aesthetic procedures, make sure that you thoroughly cleanse and pat dry the skin before proceeding. After the LED light therapy, continue with an appropriate skincare routine, such as applying Hyaluronic Acid serum or an indulgent face sheet mask.
