Your Guide to Facial Dermaplaning
We all know how frequently the beauty industry evolves, and what was unheard of yesterday, becomes an essential new trend today. Dermaplaning is already one of this year’s top beauty buzz-words, but what exactly is this treatment and how could it benefit your clients?
What is Dermaplaning?
Known under a variety of names – including skin levelling, dermal planing, blading, or simply shaving – Dermaplaning involves the use of a sterile scalpel or blade to gently remove dead skin cells (stratum corneum) and ‘peach fuzz’ hair (vellus) from your client’s face.
This may sound dramatic, but the treatment is a completely pain-free form of manual exfoliation that boosts collagen production, leaving skin supple and glowing.
One of the key messages to get across to your clients is that the benefits of Dermaplaning can be seen immediately! No need to commit to frequent visits, and absolutely no down time, up to 4 weeks of dead skin cells can be removed in a single session to reveal instantly smoother, rejuvenated skin. Here are some of the main benefits clients could expect:
- Smoother, more supple skin.
- Reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Improved elasticity.
- More even complexion.
- Reduced breakouts.
- Better penetration of skincare products.
- Easier makeup application.
- Improved skin cell turnover.
- Radiant glow.
Although launched as an exfoliating skin treatment, many female clients are drawn to Dermaplaning as an effective and painless means of hair removal – important to keep in mind when discussing treatment options with your clients.
While clients can experience a wealth of benefits following Dermaplaning treatments, it is not recommended for clients with active or cystic acne, very oily skin, rosacea, eczema, extreme sensitivity, or hyper-pigmentation.
Following the treatment, skin can be more sensitive to sunlight so it is advised that clients avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning beds, and apply SPF 30+ daily.
